Waste to Energy / Biomass – Fuel Moisture Feedback
Dec 06, 2017 by H2O Admin
Combustion boilers utilizing fuels with varying moisture can see varying steam loads based on the fuel variability.  The more information the plant knows about the fuel moisture, the better the plant can plan accordingly to provide a more stable steam load.  Since waste to energy fuels have varying components, it is very hard to measure the fuel moisture on a real time basis prior to entering the furnace.  The same can be seen in biomass boiler applications. Another option to direct fuel m... Read More
Combined Cycle Plant Benefits
Aug 03, 2017 by H2O Admin
Knowing the water concentration at the HRSG outlet in combined cycle power plants can benefit the plant in 3 areas. The areas are corrosion protection during outages, tube leak detection and improved feed water temperature control. Many plants during outages need to eliminate water condensation so the tubes within the HRSG are not exposed to corrosion. Some plants insert balloons to eliminate humid, ambient air entering the HRSG during outages.  Another option is to monitor the dew point i... Read More
Spray Dryer Optimization
Apr 06, 2015 by H2O Admin
The capacity of a spray dryer is the amount of water evaporated within the dryer. The evaporation is directly correlated with the temperature drop across the dryer. The greater the difference between the inlet temperature and the outlet temperature, the more water is evaporated. In order to optimize the capacity, the inlet temperature of the dryer should be as high as possible (within the constraints of the product being dried) and held constant.  This also improves the energy efficiency of th...
